Our Mission: Make Old Cows Cool Again

A cow that hasn't paid off her rearing costs can't net a farmer profit, irregardless of how much milk she puts in the tank or how nice her marbeling EBV may be. And with rising replacement costs, it takes longer for an animal to "break even" than ever. We believe that resilient and long-lived cows are the key to resilient and long-lived livestock operations. Our mission is to build AI tools that help farmers breed for structurally sounder cattle that can live long, productive, and profitable lives. Our technology is built on a foundation of three key pillars:

Accessibility

The AI revolution is here, and we believe that these powerful tools should be as accessible to a herd of 10 cows as it is for a farm of 10,000. Otherwise, our small family farms will get left even farther behind. With our mobile-first phenotyping platform, we aim to build a phenotyping platform that is affordable and practical for farms of all shapes and sizes (and internet speed).

Objectivity

Our platform is measurement-based. That means we didn't just train some neural network against scores from an evaluator you've never met. Instead we've trained out AI to annotate the key anatomical features of each scan and pull out the exact angles and proportions – no opinions, just geometry. And because we pull our metrics directly from the 3D scans themselves, there's no hiding bad angles by finding a "flattering" camera angle like you can with a 2D picture.

Interpretability

Have you ever met a farmer that likes being told what to do? We sure haven't, so we've built our technology to empower your decisions with data, not automate you out of the process. We do this by completely avoiding "black box" algorithms. All of our measurements are fully explained, and designed to mirror as closely as possible the time-tested conventions of animal evaluation. Additionally, while AI tools can be useful in converting large volumes of data into actionable alerts, we also believe no algorithm could ever fully understand the nuances of each unique farm environment. That's why we use AI tools to enhance the visualization of trends and patterns within our phenotypic measurements, helping you extract your own insights from this data to use in whatever way best suits your breeding and management program.
